Music Notes: Jack White, Michael Franti, fun.
 THOMAS EDISON IV?Â
Jack White revealed a new invention for the 3rd anniversary of his Thirdman Records, the world’s first ever 3rpm vinyl record. He’ll release 12″ versions of his label acts First Aid Kit, Laura Marling, Tom Jones, Wanda Jackson and White’s bizarre collaboration with Insane Clown Posse.
“The world’s first 3 RPM record is a study in contradictions– it’s cut at the slowest speed yet it plays faster than anything you’ve ever heard. It’s a compilation of 7 inch records but it’s packaged like a 12 inch. But the 12 inch sleeve is made like our 7 inch sleeve (as it is one continues piece of paper folded in half and put into an acetate sleeve). It’s easy to play but impossible to hear. You put your finger on it to slow it down and we estimate it would take 333 days of 33 hours training per day for your finger, hand, and arm muscles to spin at a continuous speed of 3 rpm for X hours and X minutes.“
Hmm, wonder if he’ll be selling any at Hangout Fest?

IN THE STUDIO
Michael Franti tells Rolling Stone he and Spearhead are working on a new album for possibly Fall release that will be a departure of soundscape for him:
This album is a lot harder and more aggressive,” Franti tells Rolling Stone. “There are some songs that are just acoustic guitar and nothing else, but the ones that aren’t like that are louder and at times more punk rock, with dance beats to them.”

FUNPUNNING ON NUMBER ONE
New arrivals to the scene Fun. enjoy another week at number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, the fourth week in a row. But what about their band name?
“I love this bandname, but th epun is killing me.”
“What kills me the most is the apologies, like that show was really fun. uh, I’m sorry, uh.”
“If we ever end up in like the type of mainstream where newscasters are talking about us, it’ll be disastrous.”
