MOBILE, Ala. – A sanitary sewer overflow of about 6,600 gallons was reported by the Mobile Area Water & Sewer System on Monday, Nov. 26, at 4158 Springdale Road.

Officials with the utility said the wastewater overflowed into Bolton Branch Creek as a result of a broken sewer main.

Crews from the water and sewer system reported to the Mobile County Health Department that repairs were made and steps are being taken to prevent further overflows at the location, public health officials said.

Dr. Bernard Eichold, Health Officer for the Mobile County Health Department, urges residents to use caution when coming into contact with any standing water that may have resulted from the overflow. All seafood harvested in this general area should be thoroughly cooked before consumption. People should wash their hands after cleaning seafood and before preparing food.
