American Authors Plan Costume Bat-Stravaganza for Halloween Show

Andrew Zaeh/IslandAmerican Authors is currently out on the road as part of the Honda Civic Tour, and they’ve got a show Halloween night in Minneapolis.  The band plans to take full advantage of the holiday show by staging an over-the-top costume extravaganza with one central theme: Batman.

American Authors frontman Zac Barnett tells ABC News Radio that the entire band is planning to take the stage dressed, not as the Caped Crusader, but as classic Batman villains.  “I’m thinking about being Two-Face,” he tells ABC News Radio.  “[Our bass player] Dave is going to be the Penguin. [Our drummer] Matt will be The Joker. We have, like, an extra backup musician who plays with us, his name is Taylor, and he’s going to be the Riddler because he kind of looks like a Riddler.”

Referring to their lead guitarist, Zac says, “James, we’re still not sure yet. We’re kind of thinking Mr. Freeze or — depending on how hot it gets on stage –with a mask he’d be a good Bane, because he’s definitely the biggest guy out of the group. He could make a good Bane.”

Now, if you saw The Dark Knight Rises, you know that Bane wears a mask that covers his mouth, but Zac says James doesn’t sing much, so it won’t be a problem.

However, there is one very notable Batman villain that Zac admits no one in the band has the guts to take on, costume wise: Catwoman.

“We were talking about that but I don’t know if anyone wants to step up as Catwoman quite yet,” he tells ABC News Radio. “I just don’t know if any one of us are ready to get on stage in a full-on spandex Catwoman suit.”

American Authors will close out the Honda Civic Tour November 11 in Connecticut, and then will appear on VH1’s You Oughta Know all-star concert in New York on the 13th, along with Sam Smith, A Great Big World and other rising young acts.
