Rolling Stones' Australia Tour Kickoff Features Classic Tunes, a Bob Dylan Cover and an Uninvited Guest

Image Courtesy of Simon CrossThe Rolling Stones kicked off the Australian leg of their 14 on Fire tour Saturday night in Adelaide.  The concert, in front of a sold-out crowd of more than 53,000, featured 19 songs and included many of the same tunes the band played during its European summer trek.

One interesting addition to the set was a cover of Bob Dylan‘s “Like a Rolling Stone,” which was the song chosen by an online fan vote.  A disconcerting incident occurred while the band was playing its encore, when a man rushed onto the stage.  According to multiple reports, security guards tackled the intruder before he could reach any of the band members and escorted him out of the venue.

Frontman Mick Jagger quipped from the stage after the incident, “All part of the act, some Aussies Rules tackling!”

Darren Chandler, an official for the Adelaide Oval stadium, told local newspaper The Advertiser that he believed the intruder had come from the backstage area rather than from the audience.  Chandler said The Stones’ security handed the man over to Australian police.

The Rolling Stones have posted a video clip of part of the opening song of their show, “Jumpin’ Jack Flash,” on their official YouTube channel.  The rock legends next two concerts will take place in Perth this Wednesday and Saturday.
