This fall marks the 30th Anniversary of the lunch-time Brown Bag Concert Series.

brownbag-fall2015-600x932The event originated in 1985 as 92Zew’s contribution to a new arts event, September-Celebration, in Bienville Square, The original intent of the series was to bring folks out of their offices to enjoy the music and ambience Mobile had to offer…and still does.

The series was later expanded to include two Eastern Shore locations, Daphne’s MayDay Park (Thursday) and Fairhope’s Windmill Market (Friday).

Catt Sirten, founder of the event, expresses his thanks to the long term supporters of the Brown Bag Series. “The series might have faded away years ago if it wasn’t for the City of Mobile-Office of Special Events stepping up to co-produce the event in the late 90’s. The Office of Special Events are really unsung heroes when it comes to behind-the-scenes logistics, production, and promotion of City events.”

When the Brown Bag Series expanded across the bay, David McKelroy at Daphne’s Recreation Department incorporated Brown Bag by the Bay into their yearly events that allow us to bring folks to one the area’s hidden gems at MayDay Park.

“Fridays in Fairhope” is the only series at a commercial sponsor, the Windmill Market, They are in the heart of Fairhope with multiple restaurants on-site and a pre-existing stage so it makes a good lunch destination.

All events in the series take place from 11:30am-1:30pm throughout September and October, and are free to the public.
