Festival a home run, mayor says – Baldwin County NOW – A Gulf Coast Information Source for South Alabama.

GULF SHORES — Things are still buzzing about last weekends first annual Hangout Music Festival in Gulf Shores. Despite the threat of bad weather and threatening weather, the festival was very successful for a first year event.

Organizers, elected officials, and locals alike hope that this year’s event was just a window to the future of the event.

“I had an opportunity to be exposed to some music that I was unfamiliar with, and to me, that was a very positive thing,” said Grant Brown, Director of Recreation and Cultural Affairs for Gulf Shores. “For a first year, it was very well organized, there were very qualified people taking care of all aspects of the event, and they were prepared for issues with the weather.

During the next 30 to 45 days, officials plan to balance the economic impacts of the event were against the residents concerns, both positive and negative, to see if there is a want to continue the event in the future.

According to Brown, there were no serious complaints outside of noise from the late-night fireworks.

“My opinion is this was a home run,” said Mayor Robert Craft. “It was a first class event that could not have been run any better.  The Hangout did what they said they were going to do, the beach looked great, and I think we can even tweak it for next year to give more locals an opportunity to benefit from this great event.”

Craft said that there were no major law enforcement issues during the 3-day event.
