To prove the collaboration, a most raucously outrageous Superjam returned to Bonnaroo with the Night Tripper, Dan Auerbach (Black Keys) and Patrick Hallahan (My Morning Jacket) on drums. A special appearance by the Preservation Hall Jazz Band just added more whipped cream to the affair. While most songs were familiar, there were a couple that were unidentifiable.
So finally, we hear from Nonesuch Records that Mac’s (Dr. John) new album ‘Locked Down‘, set for release April 3, was produced by Mr. Auerbach in his Nashville Easy Eye recording studios. Auerbach assembled the players to back Mac on this decidedly different sounding record that Dr. John says ‘is real HIP’.
To celebrate the release, Auerbach will join Dr. John in a three weekend residency at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (Brooklyn, NY), called Dr. John: Insides Out. Each weekend will host hand-picked supporting musicians with a different musical theme. Weekend one (March 29-31) will be a tribute to Louis Armstrong; Weekend Two (April 5-7), music from the album will be premiered, and Weekend Three (April 12-15) is Funky But It’s Nu Awlins, a funk unfused night of NOLA music featuring some of the key players that we undoubtedly see here quite frequently.
Let’s hope the collab finds its way back down to these parts
