Eric Clapton’s latest release, Old Sock, arrives in stores March 12 and features two new tracks and ten covers of some of Eric’s favorite songs.
Slowhand explains how he goes about performing a cover:
“When I sing famous songs or other people’s songs by people I admire, I generally sing them as if I’m talking, singing my own story, otherwise, to me, it doesn’t have… I mean, it’s got to have heart, I mean, I suppose what I try to do is make it so that I would enjoy it if I was listening to it. Music is just like cinema, I’ve got to be able to believe it.”
The covers Eric takes on on Old Sock include Ray Charles “Born to Lose,” Lead Belly’s “Goodnight, Irene” and the blues classic “Further on Down the Road,” among others. Hear them all when Old Sock comes out on Tuesday. It also has guest appearances from old friends, Paul McCartney, Eric’s old Blind Faith bandmate Steve Winwood, blues legend JJ Cale and R&B singer Chaka Khan. The new tunes on his 21st album are “Every Little Thing” and “Gotta Get Over.”
