Wet Willie featuring Jimmy Hall
Southern Rock icons Wet Willie have been thrilling fans for more than 40 years with their potent mix of high energy R&B, downhome soul, blues and gospel harmonies. With powerhouse vocalist Jimmy Hall out front, the current line-up includes his brother Jack Hall on bass and harmonies, their sister Donna Hall Foster on backing vocals, long time member Ric Seymour on guitar and vocals, T.K. Lively on drums, keyboardist Bobby Mobley and electric/acoustic/steel guitarist Ricky Chancey. Wet Willie, originally from Mobile, Alabama, relocated to Macon, Georgia in 1969, where they were signed to Capricorn Records, and began a relentless recording and touring schedule. They broke into the national charts with their Southern Rock anthem “Keep On Smilin’” in 1974, with other hits to follow during the ’70′s, like “Streetcorner Serenade,” “Countryside of Life” and “Weekend” for Capricorn and Epic Records. Wet Willie continues to tour, currently in support of their most recent release Miles of Smiles on Atlanta’s Hittin’ the Note label.
Port City Rising II
With the goal of highlighting Mobile’s indigenous musical talent, Catt Sirten and Eric Erdman created the first “Port City Rising” in 2011. Not just a singer/songwriter concert…”Port City Rising” was a platform for members of some of Mobile’s most successful bands, to strip down the music and focus on songwriting craftsmanship rather than showmanship. The sold out concert was seen by many as a high-point for the local music community. On November 6, 2013, “Port City Rising II” will continue to spotlight the artistry of our local music community. “Port City Rising II” will follow the same format as the original concert with local artists in-the-round, supported by an all-star backing band. Scheduled to be on stage are many of the players from the original event. Eric Erdman (lead singer of Ugli Stick), Josh Ewing (former front man for Top of the Orange), Ryan Balthrop (co-founder of Slow Moses), and Ross Newell (singer with Mulligan Brothers) will be joined by some new additions and backup singers featuring Donna Hall (Wet Willie).
Tickets for the Ribbon Cutting Gala concert will be available from local partners the Downtown Mobile Alliance, 92 Zew, Mobile Symphony Orchestra Box Office, and the Saenger Theatre Box Office, located at the Mobile Civic Center, 401 Civic Center Drive. Doors open at 6:30pm; show time is 7:30pm.
Ticket does not guarantee admission, as these seats are first come, first served.
