MOBILE (Jan. 16) – Five players from the two-time defending BCS National Champion Alabama Crimson
Tide will re-unite in Mobile one last time at the 2013 Senior Bowl.
Former Alabama safety Robert Lester, who played his high school football at Foley High School, will be
joined by teammates Nico Johnson, Barrett Jones, Michael Williams and Carson Tinker in the Port City
next week. Senior Bowl practices begin on Monday, Jan. 20 and the week concludes with the game on
Jan. 26 at Ladd-Peebles Stadium. Kickoff is at 3pm on NFL Network.
Lester, the leader of Alabama’s secondary the past two seasons, was an All-SEC honorable mention in
2012. His four interceptions led the team and were sixth best in the conference. He led the SEC with
eight interceptions in 2011. Lester started all 14 games this season, 40 in his career at Alabama.
This past season, he had 48 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss (-11 yards) and 1.5 sacks (7 yards), plus a fumble
recovery and three pass breakups. He is tied for fifth in career interceptions at Alabama (14) and eighth
in interception return yardage (183).
Johnson, an Andalusia native and a three-year starter, finished third on the team with 55 tackles and
had two tackles for loss (six yards), two forced fumbles, a quarterback hurry and a pass breakup.
Jones, the 2011 Outland Trophy winner (top interior lineman) and 2012 Rimington Trophy winner (best
center), will be a part of the South squad, but the consensus First-Team All-American will be unable to
practice while he recovers from recent foot surgery.
Williams developed his reputation as a tough run-blocker in his 41 career starts over four years. He was
the edge blocker for the Tide, which averaged nearly 225 yards rushing per game. Williams also grabbed
a career-high 21 receptions for 166 yards and a career-best three touchdowns during the 2012 season.
Twelve of his receptions were good for first downs.
Tinker played in 39 career games at Alabama and was successful on every short and long snap this
season. He became the most well-known long snapper in the country after he was honored with the
Disney Spirit Award in 2011, following the Tuscaloosa tornado, in which Tinker was injured and lost his
girlfriend in the deadly tornado.
