In 1952…Radio DJ Alan Freed staged the Moondog Coronation Ball, which was billed as the “first ever rock ‘n’ roll stage show”
In 1956…Carl Perkins was injured in a car crash that killed both his manager and his brother, Jay. By the time Perkins got out of the hospital, Elvis Presley had a hit with Perkins’ song “Blue Suede Shoes.”
In 1961…The Beatles played The Cavern Club in Liverpool, England for the first time.
In 1969…John Lennon and Yoko Ono left Paris for Amsterdam, where they staged their first bed-in on their honeymoon.
In 1970…The Faces, with new singer Rod Stewart, released their debut album First Step. Before Stewart joined the group, they were known as The Small Faces.
In 1976…David Bowie and Iggy Pop were busted for suspected marijuana possession in New York, but the charges were later dropped.
