In 1971…The Beatles won an Oscar for Best Film Music (Original Song
Score) for “Let It Be.”

In 1971…According to Rolling Stone, the Illinois Crime Commission
compiled a list of “drug-oriented rock records.” The list included Jefferson
Airplane’s “White Rabbit” and Procol Harum’s “A Whiter Shade of Pale.”

In 1977…Lynyrd Skynyrd gave a gold album for One More for the Road to
Atlanta Mayor Maynard Jackson. The band donated another gold record
to Atlanta’s Fox Theatre, where the double live album was recorded.

In 1982…Billy Joel’s motorcycle collided with an automobile. He had
surgery to mend a broken wrist.

In 1989…Nesuhi Ertegun, A&R man with Atlantic Records and brother of
the boss Ahmet, died in New York.

In 1996…Jerry Garcia’s ashes were scattered near San Francisco’s
Golden Gate Bridge. A portion of the remains of the Grateful Dead guitarist
had already been deposited into the Ganges River in India.

In 1999…Entropy premiered at the Los Angeles Independent Film Festival.
The Stephen Dorff-starring film marked the first time U2 appeared in a
dramatic movie.

In 2000…Former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell attracted demonstrators and
hecklers to a United Nations youth summit in London. The protestors
disagreed with her promotion of birth control.

In 2003…Fleetwood Mac released their album Say You Will. The disc
reunited the band with Lindsey Buckingham, but vocalist Christine
McVie opted to not reunite.

In 2004…Courtney Love was ordered by a Los Angeles judge to stand
trial for two counts of drug possession.

In 2005…DMX was arrested after causing a three-car collision on an
expressway in The Bronx, New York. He was charged with driving with a
suspended license.

In 2005…OutKast settled a lawsuit with civil rights activist Rosa Parks.
Parks sued the band after they named a song after her on 1998’s Aquemini
album. The rappers agreed to help develop programs to educate kids about
Parks’ importance in American history.
