Who is putting up ‘interceptor’ cell towers? who is stealing celebrities’ cellphone naked selfies? The mystery deepens.
“Could it be….. Saaataan?!” said the Churchlady
Mysterious “interceptor” cell towers in the USA are grabbing phone calls — but they’re not part of the phone networks. And, two experts told VentureBeat today, the towers don’t appear to be projects of the National Security Agency (NSA).
According to Venture Beat (via Popular Science), a high-security cell phone maker found at least 17 cell towers that can intercept your phone’s data before it reaches your carrier’s tower, thereby getting around the privacy screen.
No ownership or name information can be found on the interceptor towers, which the company said isn’t necessarily a tower.
The FCC is launching an investigation onto who is using the fake towers, cyber-criminals, foreign intelligence, criminal gangs or something else.

MEANWHILE, you may have heard about the celebrity nudies recently ‘stolen’ from cellphones and posted online. Security firms are investigating how, possibly iPhone’s iCloud service. However, some naked pictures were from snapchat, the service where you can send a pic for one-time view, and it allegedly disappears (unfortunately, oodles of users didn’t know about ‘screen capture’).
Nonetheless, I wonder if the two are related?? And why were no penises exposed?
Mashable.com has more of the exposed darker details including a partial list of devices the images were allegedly taken from:
- 1 Droid Razr (Android)
- 9 unspecified iPhone devices
- 7 iPhone 4
- 17 iPhone 4S
- 33 iPhone 5
- 12 iPhone 5S
Which reinforces the obvious thing police tell us after a car break-in, “If you don’t want stuff stolen, don’t leave it in an unlocked car.”
Author Note: Comedian Ricky Gervais was ridiculed and tweet-attacked for his thoughts, which were along the same thought but relative to celebrities, pics and computers. So don’t tell anyone I said that about unlocked cars, lol.
