Muse just launched the North American leg of its tour in support of The 2nd Law, and this time around, the stage show features a huge pyramid of LED screens, lasers, customized video and other effects. But with a history of putting on concerts that are visually stunning, drummer Dominic Howard says it’s getting difficult for the band to outdo itself.

“I think we always have to feel like we’re doing something slightly better to what we did last time,” Howard told Billboard.com. “As far as just trying to make the show bigger and better and have more effects and be crazier than what we did last time, that’s almost getting to the point where that’s getting hard. I think in many ways the band is getting better all the time at playing and performing. I think as far as how we are on stage and how we are to the audience, it’s getting better all the time. Somehow it’s still moving forward. That’s the main thing — it`s still moving in the right direction.”

The band also made an attempt this time to be closer to the audience, after The Resistance Tour had the trio playing on elevated hydraulic lifts. “The main thing I’ve noticed about this show, which we’re really enjoying, is it’s so much more interactive with the crowd,” the drummer added. “I’m kind of stuck in one position, although I do spin around a bit, but Matt [Bellamy] and Chris [Wolstenholme] are definitely more interactive with the crowd. Just the way the stage is designed lends itself to those guys being down front a lot more. Matt actually does sing a couple of songs without his guitar, so he can actually get right down in the crowd and walk around. There’s something that’s much more personal about this particular stage and production.”

Muse plans to be on the road for at least another year, so it will be quite a while before they start working on new music. Howard explained that he and Bellamy “have just been tentatively talking about what we’re doing to do, how we’re gonna do it, what we need to think about when we are going to do it — not really discussing musical ideas so much as just how we’re going to approach it and when we’re going to do it. We’ve been having those conversations, but really we’ve just literally started touring. We’re going to be on the road for another year or 14 months or whatever it is, so we’ve still got loads of touring to do. We tend to feel like we need to finish touring one album before we start anything else rather than starting an album on the road. We like to finish a chapter and start afresh, so it’ll be a couple of years, probably.”

Meanwhile, Muse is nominated for two trophies at the February 10 Grammy Awards, including Best Rock Album for The 2nd Law and Best Rock Song for “Madness.”

‘Big Easy Express rides perfectly into Austin’ … Baylorlariat.com

Mumford and Sons are the spotlight for Showtime’s musical winter with two exclusive documentaries on the band; ‘The Road to Red Rocks’ and the Grammy nominated film ‘Big Easy Express’. The band is also set to play Musicares tribute to Bruce Springsteen and the Grammy Awards.

<– Watch the live Bonnaroo performance 2011 below –>

The worldwide television premiere of ‘Road to Red Rocks’ is slated for Friday, February 1, 7pm (CST). Directed by a couple friends, Fred & Nick, the film follows the band to Colorado’s infamous amphitheatre for two sold out shows. Along with some stunning performances, the viewers are taken backstage for interviews with the band and treated to a behind-the-scenes look at life on the road.
‘Big Easy Express’ sees its worldwide TV debut Friday, February 8 at 7pm on Showtime as well. This unique tour a couple years ago featured Mumford and Sons, Old Crow Medicine Show, and Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes. The three artists came up with a dream while hanging together at Bonnaroo one year. The dream became a reality when they boarded a vintage train in California, bound for New Orleans. Part concert, part roadtrip, ‘Big Easy Express’ is directed by Emmett Malloy, who also helmed the critically acclaimed ‘White Stripes Under Great White Northern Skies’. It’s also Grammy nominated for best long form music video.

Coachella Music Festival Lineup was just released and includes a few reunions, like Blur (band that features Gorillaz’ Damon Albarn), The Stone Roses, OMD and New Order. Also on the two week bill are Red Hot Chili Peppers, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Modest Mouse, Vampire Weekend, Phoenix, Lou Reed, The Lumineers, 2 Chainz and many more. Noticeably absent are the Rolling Stones and David Bowie, both of whom were rumored to make the trek to the California desert for the festival. But, as Coachella history goes, sometimes the biggest names on the bill are announced after the festival sells out.

The event is two weekends, both with the same lineup, in Indio, California on April 12 th to the 14 th and April 19 th to the 21 st . Three-day festival passes go on sale on Tuesday at 10 AM Pacific and can be purchased at Coachella.com/Festival-Passes.

Here’s a great idea for your snazzy new DSLR camera. Timelapse pics of the nightsky. You might even catch more than stars, planets and meteors, like maybe a ‘UFO’, like the production team of Sunchaser Productions.

The team spent the night in Death Valley, with freezing temperatures mind you, to capture the beauty of the nightsky during the Geminids meteor showers (Dec. 13, 2012) by using the timelapse technique. A picture shot every 5 seconds, then put together in a two minute video.

The ‘galactic palette’l, as they call it, is quite glorious indeed. Especially the part where a UFO flies through. Yep, a UFO, or something, does a couple round-a-bouts (about 1:30 into the film). While it looks to be fast, it’s actually moving extremely slow insofar as, it’s a timelapse video; 5 seconds is really 50 minutes. The team said they never heard or saw a thing.
Read the rest of their galactic filming explanations here.

Check it out, what do you think? Other than they have great taste in music tracking.

Update:  AJ Niland of Huka Ent. confirmed that yes, SFX did indeed buy Huka, a deal they’ve been working on for months. But it is actually a more positive move for the group insofar as SFX will still maintain ‘divisions’ of promoters and Huka will be in charge of the rock division. So they’ll still do regional and national concert promotions, but just under the SFX umbrella and they’ll have more capital to work with when booking.

So there’s another sigh of relief and more hope for the future of live entertainment in Lower Alabama. Particularly since the City’s considering changes to operations of the Saenger Theatre.

Billboard Biz reported today Voodoo Festival and Hangout Festival were among several purchases of SFX Entertainment, the chief competition of Live Nation Concert promoters (which SFX previously owned in the 90′s, but sold to Clear Channel). Fortunately, the Hangout Fest part was erroneous.

After many phone calls to our sources, Billboard updated the article to say it was actually Huka Entertainment that was purchased by SFX and not Hangout Festival, which is still owned by The Hangout’s Shaul Zislin. (do you hear that heavy sigh of relief). However, Huka was chiefly responsible for booking entertainment for Hangout Fest, along with bringing many great shows to the Saenger Theatre in the past.

Here’s the actual article from Billboard.biz

.
SFX Entertainment has added five new companies to its portfolio, including Voodoo Experience and ID&T — the largest dance-event promoter in the world — according to its president Robert F.X. Sillerman. The moves automatically give SFX a significant foothold in the North American festival market – and not just in EDM.

( UPDATE: While our initial report stated that SFX had acquired the Hangout Festival, SFX actually acquired Huka Entertainment, a company that promotes and provides services to the festival but does not have equity in it. The Hangout Music Festival continues to be owned and operated by founder Shaul Zislin.)

Sillerman announced in June that he would spend $1 billion acquiring EDM entities, starting with regional promoter Disco Donnie Presents and paintball party-throwers Life in Color. Acquisitions had stalled since then, but now, Sillerman says, “the pace is picking up quite a bit.” He expects to announce as many as seven additional pick-ups by February 1.
For those expecting pure EDM plays, the news of multi-genre Voodoo Experience (New Orleans) and might come as a surprise.

“They’re not specifically EDM, but they’re great festivals,” says Sillerman. “Voodoo has been operated on as a sole practitioner on relatively small level, and we think it has upside not just in New Orleans but elsewhere. It’s a fabulous name, amongst other things, so we think we’ll be able to help Steve [Rehage], the owner and operator, take that to other markets.”

The deal with ID&T, the largest promoter of dance events in the world, leapfrogs Live Nation, which hosted the first North American edition of Sensation, the Dutch company’s white party, at the Barclays Center this October.

As a joint venture (for North America only), “[ID&T people] stay involved,” says Sillerman. “Several have moved to the U.S. and are actively running this.”

In addition to Sensation, the deal also includes hardstyle brand Q-Dance, and Tomorrowland, a three-day camp-out festival that resembles an EDM Woodstock.
Robert F. X. Sillerman Returning To Live Biz, Eying EDM Companies
While recent chatter has hinted that Insomniac Events, the producer of Electric Daisy Carnival, would imminently announce a sale to Sillerman, the ID&T news might make that less likely. The two companies host similar, potentially competitive events, which could push Insomniac closer to its other suitor, Live Nation. Sillerman, however, would not count out an Insomniac deal.

“We never comment on stuff like that, but it’s fair to say that we’ve been talking to everybody,” he says. “Pasquale [Rotella, Insomniac president] is in his own way a genius, and has accomplished things that no one else has come close to. So with that level of respect, you can draw your own conclusion.”

SFX also acquired two Miami nightlife companies, giving it control of most of the city’s EDM-focused nightclubs: Miami Marketing Group, which operates LIV at the Fontainebleau Hotel; and Opium Group, which owns and operates five venues including Mansion and Set.

“The two great club markets are Miami and Las Vegas. Miami is much more authentic and international, and consequently it’s a breeding ground for future talent,” says Sillerman. “We’ve got great facilities, great venues, and terrific management.”

Sillerman also announced the appointment of Chris Stephenson, former CMO of Interscope and CEO of U.K. superclub Ministry of Sound, to the position of SFX CMO (he also served as President of Sillerman’s social TV watching app Viggle). But he emphasized a smaller corporate structure to the company overall.

“Contrary to what some people might be afraid of, this industry cannot be operated with a centralized corporate function,” he says. “It must be decentralized with full power invested in the entrepreneurs who have made these businesses.”

This latest move from Sillerman will have a deja-vu impact for those around when he consolidated the live business in the 1990s, creating what is now Live Nation. At that time, announcements of the latest acquisitions came in rapid-fire fashion, with SFX frequently paying hefty multiples of companies’ annual earnings. Sillerman frequently bought competitors like PACE and Cellar Door, with a common denominator generally — but not always — being real estate holdings in the form of amphitheaters. At that time, Sillerman had no real competitors in vying for these companies, although a few made a run at it, including House Of Blues Entertainment, now part of Live Nation.

Today, Sillerman not only has to compete in his shopping spree with the company he created in Live Nation, but a wealth of other deep-pocketed investors from within and outside of the entertainment business. Sillerman’s expertise in in this game is undeniable, as SFX eventually ended up spending about $2 billion in acquiring the live entertainment firms and sold to Clear Channel for more than $4 billion in 2000. And while he permanently changed the business through his activities in the ’90s, it’s worth noting that the SFX company line throughout that period was that the intention was never to flip. The question this time is, has the leopard changed his spots?

via seniorbowl.com
MOBILE (Jan. 16) – Five players from the two-time defending BCS National Champion Alabama Crimson
Tide will re-unite in Mobile one last time at the 2013 Senior Bowl.
Former Alabama safety Robert Lester, who played his high school football at Foley High School, will be
joined by teammates Nico Johnson, Barrett Jones, Michael Williams and Carson Tinker in the Port City
next week. Senior Bowl practices begin on Monday, Jan. 20 and the week concludes with the game on
Jan. 26 at Ladd-Peebles Stadium. Kickoff is at 3pm on NFL Network.
Lester, the leader of Alabama’s secondary the past two seasons, was an All-SEC honorable mention in
2012. His four interceptions led the team and were sixth best in the conference. He led the SEC with
eight interceptions in 2011. Lester started all 14 games this season, 40 in his career at Alabama.
This past season, he had 48 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss (-11 yards) and 1.5 sacks (7 yards), plus a fumble
recovery and three pass breakups. He is tied for fifth in career interceptions at Alabama (14) and eighth
in interception return yardage (183).
Johnson, an Andalusia native and a three-year starter, finished third on the team with 55 tackles and
had two tackles for loss (six yards), two forced fumbles, a quarterback hurry and a pass breakup.
Jones, the 2011 Outland Trophy winner (top interior lineman) and 2012 Rimington Trophy winner (best
center), will be a part of the South squad, but the consensus First-Team All-American will be unable to
practice while he recovers from recent foot surgery.
Williams developed his reputation as a tough run-blocker in his 41 career starts over four years. He was
the edge blocker for the Tide, which averaged nearly 225 yards rushing per game. Williams also grabbed
a career-high 21 receptions for 166 yards and a career-best three touchdowns during the 2012 season.
Twelve of his receptions were good for first downs.
Tinker played in 39 career games at Alabama and was successful on every short and long snap this
season. He became the most well-known long snapper in the country after he was honored with the
Disney Spirit Award in 2011, following the Tuscaloosa tornado, in which Tinker was injured and lost his
girlfriend in the deadly tornado.

According the Independent UK, Costello, a vegetarian and friend of the McCartneys since the 80′s, said “Linda always talked well and made it seem that you wouldn’t be joining a secret weird society by being vegetarian.” Although some may think that after viewing the psychedelic-looking video that has Linda and her trusty cam cooking dinner for the animals in the forest. Adele at Bonnaroo 2008

c Rolling Stone Mag - Adele at Bonnaroo 2008

source: Digital Spy

These days of mass media all a celebrity needs to do is mention something and things happen — quickly.

Apparently in an interview yesterday (june 1), Adele mentioned her fandom of Aussie soap Neighbours and today she’s offered a bit part on the show with a huge welcome from the cast and crew.

So what did Adele say exactly? “I love Neighbours and especially Harold. He plays the tuba so I’d love to ask him to play on some of the tracks. In return I could do a cameo on Neighbours like Lily Allen did. But I have to overcome my fear of flying all that way first.”

Well, there ya go, modern day barters.

Coldplay will drop a new tune this Friday, “Every Teardrop is a Waterfall”.

Here’s the lyrics. Keep your ear on the ZEW to hear it.

I TURN THE MUSIC UP, I GOT MY RECORDS ON
I SHUT THE WORLD OUTSIDE UNTIL THE LIGHTS COME ON
MAYBE THE STREETS ALIGHT, MAYBE THE TREES ARE GONE
I FEEL MY HEART START BEATING TO MY FAVOURITE SONG

AND ALL THE KIDS THEY DANCE, ALL THE KIDS ALL NIGHT
UNTIL MONDAY MORNING FEELS ANOTHER LIFE
I TURN THE MUSIC UP
I’M ON A ROLL THIS TIME
AND HEAVEN IS IN SIGHT

I TURN THE MUSIC UP, I GOT MY RECORDS ON
FROM UNDERNEATH THE RUBBLE SING A REBEL SONG
DON’T WANT TO SEE ANOTHER GENERATION DROP
I’D RATHER BE A COMMA THAN A FULL STOP

MAYBE I’M IN THE BLACK, MAYBE I’M ON MY KNEES
MAYBE I’M IN THE GAP BETWEEN THE TWO TRAPEZES
BUT MY HEART IS BEATING AND MY PULSES START
CATHEDRALS IN MY HEART

AND WE SAW OH THIS LIGHT I SWEAR YOU, EMERGE BLINKING INTO
TO TELL ME IT’S ALRIGHT
AS WE SOAR WALLS, EVERY SIREN IS A SYMPHONY
AND EVERY TEAR’S A WATERFALL
IS A WATERFALL
OH
IS A WATERFALL
OH OH OH
IS A IS A WATERFALL
EVERY TEAR
IS A WATERFALL
OH OH OH

SO YOU CAN HURT, HURT ME BAD
BUT STILL I’LL RAISE THE FLAG

OH
IT WAS A WA WA WA WA WA-ATERFALL
A WA WA WA WA WA-ATERFALL

EVERY TEAR
EVERY TEAR
EVERY TEARDROP IS A WATERFALL

EVERY TEAR

So Beautiful or So What

To celebrate the release of his first new record in five years, legendary artist Paul Simon has announced a very special North American tour beginning Friday, April 15th in Seattle, Washington. The set list will draw from his iconic career, including several songs that haven’t been performed live in many years. Also included will be songs from So Beautiful or So What, his brand new album set for release by Hear Music/Concord Music Group on Tuesday, April 12, 2011. Before hitting the road, Simon will appear two consecutive nights, April 6th and 7th on NBC’s Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.

Produced by Phil Ramone and Paul Simon, with liner notes written by Elvis Costello, So Beautiful or So What is one of the most highly anticipated albums of the year. Rolling Stone magazine recently declared it, “His best since Graceland,” and National Public Radio affirmed, “…his new music balances great poetry and pop. Paul Simon is a national treasure.” In their current issue, Filter Magazine calls the new album, “…a new masterpiece from the Picasso of music.”

Joining Paul for this tour is a stellar band of musicians including Cameroonian guitarist Vincent Nguini, drummer Jim Oblon, pianist Mick Rossi, saxophonist/keyboardist Andrew Snitzer, bassist Bakithi Kumalo, guitarist Mark Stewart, master percussionist Jamey Haddad and multi-instrumentalist Tony Cedras.
