Born and raised here in Mobile, Alabama, Pablo became a DJ in 1991 while still in high school, and promptly spent most of his formative years as an air talent/programmer with stations such as WABB and others, while also working in numerous nightclub settings. Pablo, married to his wife Kelly, is currently the morning host on 92ZEW and directs promotions for 92ZEW and sister station WNSP by day and stays up all night spinning tunes with his daughter Bridget, age 6, whose favorite song is currently anything by Big Time Rush. Really.

Hi, geekish manchild Pablo back with more ramblings about serious, weighty important topi….nah, just me spitballin ’bout movies, music and such…and for the record, I receive no money to post about these things…they’re just what interest ME….

So,  Captain America returns April 4th in Marvel’s CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER….but does the world care?  CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER came out in July 2011 and mustered up 176 million bucks. Good, but chump change when compared to the 300+ million of all the Spider-Man and Iron Man flicks, and certainly no AVENGERS, which made over 600 million. So, CA:TFA was no AVENGERS, but it wasn’t HOWARD THE DUCK either.

Why is this? There are too many variables to ever know for sure, but the character of Captain America is the oldest Marvel superhero, so you’d THINK that might help. But did it actually hurt the movies chances?  Let’s face it, a character that is the epitome of American WWII propaganda MIGHT not be much of a draw for worldwide audiences who dislike recent and current American actions or policies or those predisposed to dislike things overtly “Merica!”.  If this is what kept you away from the first film, please take a chance to rectify that.  Those who expect a cheesy, propaganda style Cap may be surprised to find an authority questioning, strong willed Captain America and the new flick seems to indicate this will be emphasized even more in CA:TWS.  It was touched on for comedic effect well in CA:TFA, but looks like “stuff gets real” in the new movie.

The trailer shows a Cap who is questioning everything S.H.I.E.L.D (the government) is doing, and why.  An almost rebellious Cap, and his eventually truly becoming the leader of men he’s always been in the comic books.  So, I hope people who passed on the awesomeness of CA;TFA will give this one a shot and see that the Steve Rogers character is way more than a mere government mouthpiece and stooge, he’s a guy who stands for what America SHOULD BE: freedom…freedom to be who you are, freedom to do what you do, and freedom to question the status quo and, if necessary, break the mold and fix it if someone is getting shafted.  Cap is the ideal of what America CAN be, not what we have been or currently are.  I hope the movie really goes for broke and shows THAT Cap.  I’ll salute that and I think they’ll win more worldwide Cap fans in the process.

Plus, Scarlett Johansson.  AND….Scarlett Johansson.  Also,  SCARLETT JOHANSSON.  Ahem.

Hope you’re enjoying the NEW 92ZEW lineup!  I know I am, as I now get to sleep in a little more each day!  Doing mornings haad it’s benefits, but middays is soooo much more conducive to my life and the other parts of my job.  Thanks to Tim & LeeAnn for taking the morning reigns.   Gene Murrell moves to afternoons, but he’s a lazy goofball like me,  so he’s loving the extra shut-eye time too!

I’m looking forward to bringing you more awesome Gumbo Shop tunes & themes and helping you get the work day just a littttttle bit easier.  Drop me a line if you have an idea for a cool Gumbo Shop theme or want to get a request in for our next All Request Gumbo Shop!

Other random thoughts:

— This cold weather storm hype is already overdone. Bah.

— AMERICAN HUSTLE.  Saw it.  Don’t get the hype on it either.  It’s “ok”….but not Best Picture IMHO….

— What’s up with the ignorance of Daft Punk?  Has the world been in a cave for 20 years? Answer: yes.

— I am psyched for Fantasy Baseball to get here.  Keep yer Super Game Ad Bowl whatever the thing is called.

— Mardi Gras is coming.  More long nights with Al at The Garage.  Fun times!

— My brother in law may be the most entertaining dude ever to be in a bar with. NEVER a dull moment.

So, the lineup is out…tickets are on sale…and the question has been asked: who the heck is that band? Most of us know The Black Keys, Outkast, The Killer, Jack Johnson and the other big name bands.  But some of the other bands on the lineup might not be so well known.  It’s one of the best parts of Hangout Fest every year IMHO…finding bands you didn’t know of and getting to dig into their catalog of tunes.  So, here’s a little appetizer/primer of some of the bands I’m most looking forward to seeing on the undercard to get you ready to dance like a lunatic in the sand May 16th-18th for Hangout Fest 2014.

Thanks to Ernie, our sound guy for 2nd 2sday shows, for hipping me to this band awhile back.  Ernie knows his stuff!  If this tune doesn’t get your butt shakin’, you simply do not have a butt.  Seek medical help.

If you missed Allen in Mobile last year, you missed a LOT!  He’s simply a must-see artist.

This is my first Andrew W.K. song I ever heard.   Still my favorite.   Dude is a mad genius that makes other mad genius candidates bow in submission to the master.

Do you even make hits bro?   Why yes….yes you do….

Attention wannabe rockstars: THIS is how you pay your dues like a pro.  I intentionally avoided live performance videos as it’s hard to find THE video to showcase bands to others as different people dig different types of video styles and performances can vary, but this one had to be included.  In the Atlanta rain, Reignwolf still brings it.

This song features Andre’ 3000 of Outkast which begs the question….will we get lucky enough to get this version at Hangout?  This is also the song that will make Capital Cities famous if it gets pushed as a single IMHO.  It’s good sh….well, you’ll see.

MOS give us Superman finally punching stuff which he hasn’t done in a flick in a couple of decades. It’s a great action flick even if they take a few artistic liberties.

WTM gives us Jennifer Aniston in her undies, something that hasn’t happened since Matt LeBlanc walked into…..ahh, you’ll have to get that story from them…. hilarious weed smuggling comedies never get old!

Now that BURN NOTICE is DOA, Bruce Campbell, aka “The Chin”,  says he’s down to make ARMY OF DARKNESS 2!  Sam Raimi is working on a script. Will Campbell’s Ash be the star or the new female Ash featured in the remake of EVIL DEAD?  Or both?  Time will tell…

If you haven’t yet seen the cult classic ARMY OF DARKNESS, do yourself, and humanity, a favor and rectify that issue STAT.  It’s darn near perfect Halloween viewing!

ShrimpFest 2013 - Free concerts web

I’m looking forward to an awesome weekend on the beach in Gulf Shores with our friends at Shrimp Fest!  They’ve expanded to 4 days of music and killer food and the ZEW will be knee deep in all of it!  From Willie Sugarcapps on Thursday to 92ZEW Free Concerts from Portugal The Man & Crystal Fighters to Everclear on Saturday night, it’s gonna be fantastic!

Drop by and say hello!  We’ll  be broadcasting from our giant Air Sports One (thanks to our sister station WNSP for the lend!) at the West Stage and generally partyin’ like fools!  And, stop and say thanks to the crew that puts on Shrimp Fest and thank them for their hard work!  It takes a LOT to pull off an event of that magnitude every year and still keep it FREE for you to attend!

Check out all the Shrimp Fest info at!

And we apologize in advance for any shenanigans that occur via ZEW tomfoolery….
