Bayou Clinic Announces Bayou on the Move Health Initiative Event for South Mobile Co. Residents

BayouClinic, Providence Hospital, and Bay Area Food Bank teamed up to sponsor a fun and educational event on Friday Oct. 30 from 10a-2p at BayouClinic to help improve the physical, financial, and mental well being of the local community. This event is part of a larger national partnership between Ascension, of which Providence is a member, and Feeding America to address food deserts and nutritional issues.

Saenger Theatre’s Fate Still Not Decided; Once Again on Council Agenda (updated)

Huka/SMG proposal to run Saenger is on the table again. Huka says they already have at least ten performances ready to finalize for the remainder of 2013, and at least 64 so far for next year. Those possibilities could be lost if the City does not take action as soon as possible. The Saenger will be shut down October 1 if no decision made pursuant to the City’s agreement to finance it for one year.

Pace Picks Up to Stop Canadian Tar Sand Projects in Mobile

Tarsands are already shipping through metro Mobile’s residential neighborhoods and downtown business area, with plans to eventually increase to more than 120 carloads of tar sand oil per day. That translates to more than 2 million gallons of oil entering the city every day. The danger to the community far outweighs any potential benefit.
