Elton John (aka Sir Reginald Dwight) opines about the lackluster pop musicians of today and the cause … be a celebrity superstary karaoke game shows, ala American Idol. Here are some quotes from his interview with British Radio Magazine.

“‘Songwriters today are pretty awful, which is why everything sounds the same. Contemporary pop isn’t very inspiring.”

“I’m not a fan of talent shows. I probably wouldn’t have lasted if I’d gone on one. I was asked to judge ‘American Idol’. I couldn’t do it because I won’t slag anyone off.”

“I don’t want to be on television. It’s become boring, arse-paralysingly brain crippling.”

I don’t know about you, but personally, I wholeheartedly agree. Show Business shouldn’t be about winning a contest, it’s hard work, dedication to a craft, etc. About time someone spoke their mind!
