The South Mobile County Tourism Authority announces the lineup for this year’s THE SEAGRASS concert series set for Saturday, August 30th on Dauphin Island, Alabama.
Alabama native Jason Isbell headlines an “all-Americana” day of music also featuring Marc Broussard, Amanda Shires, Lisa Mills and Ryan Balthrop. This year’s concert will be held at the Alabama Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo site which offers ample festival seating space and unobstructed waterfront views of the “official Sunset Capitol of Alabama”.
Jason Isbell – nominated for Best Song, Best Album, and Artist of the year for 2014 from the Americana Music Association – hails from Green Hill, Alabama, two miles from the Tennessee border, where he grew up playing music with grandparents, uncles, aunts, great-uncles, and cousins. “The music that I make and the way I make it, has a lot to do with where I came from” he explains. “I might have also made good music if I was from a different part of the country or a different part of the world, but I’m really happy to be from there, I think I’m a lucky person to be from there.” Jason honed his skills in the music studios of Muscle Shoals before hitting the road with the Drive By Truckers in 2002. He began his solo career in 2007 highlighted with the 2013 release of the Southeastern, which has been described as an album “filled with songs of discovery.. raw, open and reflective.”
Louisiana native Marc Broussard returns to the Island after performing at last year’s Gumbo Festival, bringing his Southern roots, “Bayou Soul”, mix of funk, blues, R&B, rock and pops. Singer/songwriter and violinist, Amanda Shires performance will feature a “sunset serenade” as the sun sinks into the Western sky behind her during her set. She is also expected to join her husband, Jason, for a few tunes as well. Rounding out the schedule are local favorites Ryan Balthrop and Lisa Mills (who returns from her annual summer tour in Europe just in time for SEAGRASS).
