Since 1901 at the same site in midtown Mobile, the Little Sisters of the Poor have
cared for more than 5,000 residents of the Gulf Coast, without regard to race, creed,
or place of origin. Reimbursements from Medicaid cover less than 40 percent of the
actual costs of care. In the tradition of their foundress Saint Jeanne Jugan, the Little
Sisters rely on Divine Providence and their generous benefactors to continue their
mission of caring for the elderly poor.
