Save and Protect Our Drinking Water
No Petrochemical Pipelines in Our Drinking Watershed
No Tar Sands in/on/under the Mobile River or Mobile Bay
No New Hazardous Petrochemical/Tar Sand Storage Tank Farms on the Mobile Waterfront
4th Community Action Meeting, Tar Sands Oil Mobile!
Tuesday evening, September 3rd!!
7:00 p.m. Program: “Important factual information about an upcoming Mobile Planning Commission Public Hearing on Thursday, September 5th, proposing a hazardous petrochemical / tar sand STORAGE TANK FARM at the former International Paper Company site with access to Hog Bayou and the Mobile River.”
The public and public officials were excluded from the decision making in the current Plains SouthCap pipeline endangering our water supply. The citizens of Mobile had NO public presence and NO voice at that Public Service Commission hearing in Montgomery. This September 5th Mobile Planning Commission meeting will be the ONLY public hearing to be held for this proposed storage tank farm use of 53 acres just north of downtown Mobile.
This tank farm, when fully developed, will store hundreds of thousands of barrels of petrochemical products, which are flammable and contain unidentified diluent chemicals, which can be adversely impacted by weather events so common in our area. The tanks will reside within 900 feet of schools and residences and near to churches, a head start program, the Plateau neighborhood, and other places where citizens and their children gather to work and play. In addition, this tank farm development could negatively impact future HUD improvement grants, which could be used in nearby areas, and would definitely have a negative impact on downtown economic development, jobs, real estate, tourism related industries, our water resource industries, the ecology of the Mobile River and Bay, coastal restoration projects, the development of Mobile’s Riverfront and the future of Mobile.
All citizens are encouraged to attend the September 3rd Informational meeting. Speakers will present information about the September 5th Planning Commission hearing, the proposed tank farm development, as well as an update on the Plains SouthCap pipeline endangering our only drinking water reservoir, and the toxic Tar Sands projects in the Mobile area!!
6:40 p.m. Refreshments will be served prior to program.
