The musical that John Mellencamp and Stephen King have been writing for over a decade, Ghost Brothers of Darkland County, is scheduled to debut at Alliance theater, Atlanta, April 4th, 2012 and run through mid-May. The show centers on the deaths of two brothers and a young girl, and the legend that grows out of the tragedy.
Mellencamp says “The musical basically takes place in present day and in the late ‘40s and it takes place in Mississippi. So what does that let me do? Write blues. Original, delta, blues, zydeco-type of songs which I normally wouldn’t do, but I love that music – plus I get to write songs without the ideas of traditional choruses and hook lines and all that kind of stuff.”
T. Bone Burnett recorded the soundtrack which features Elvis Costello, Taj Mahal and Kris Kristofferson. The soundtrack will also include musical presented as a radio play (with sound effects & everything). Voice actors already signed up: Meg Ryan & Matthew McConaughey, in addition to Elvis & Kris.
