Another tribute concert has been announced to celebrate John Lennon‘s 70th birthday this fall. Jackson Browne, Patti Smith,Cyndi Lauper, Aimee Mann and Shelby Lynne confirmed for November 12 concert at the NY Beacon Theater. Yoko Ono has already announced a pair of tribute concerts for October 1 and 2 in Los Angeles, as well as a series of reissues of his solo work set for October 5. Lennon would have been 70 years old on October 9.
Buffalo Springfield will reunite for the first time in 42 years as part of this year’s Bridge School Benefit concerts. Rolling Stone reports that Neil Young will perform again with the only surviving members of the seminal band, Stephen Stills and Richie Furay, at next month’s concerts. The complete lineup for the Bridge School Benefits (set for October 23-24# has not been officially announced, but Rolling Stone says Pearl Jam, Modest Mouse, Elvis Costello,Grizzly Bear, Jacksone Browne and Billy Idol are all expected to perform.
A new, four-disc Jimi Hendrix box set is on the way November 16. Titled West Coast Seattle Boy: The Jimi Hendrix Anthology, the set includes unreleased tracks, alternate and live takes and more, including songs Hendrix played on as a session musician early in his career. The box set includes a new DVD documentary, Jimi Hendrix Voodoo Child.
