A roundtable discussion was held on ZEW airwaves regarding Lagniappe’s cover story about the Saenger Theatre and CLA’s recent changes. Listen to the exchange that included David Rasp (Heroes), Kevin Lee (Lagniappe) and Christine (Center for the Living Arts) with Shane as the ‘moderator’, and send us your thoughts and opinions.
The Saenger Theatre hasn’t had any real blockbuster shows since the CLA decided to change the Saenger’s direction and focus. Many Mobilians are asking, ‘what happened to the Tom Waits, Robert Plant (who the CLA says is “not hip”), Buddy Guy caliber of talent that used to come to town frequently?’
A plethora of people are downright concerned; business owners missing the concert customers, media outlets missing the advertising, Mobile missing the extra revenue from the business owners, and music lovers forced to drive to Biloxi to catch theatre size bands.
Another story was recently run in the Mobile Register where CLA directors urge passage of more sales tax to support the CLA’s endeavors. Read it Here
If you think the CLA should be replaced as the Theatre’s only decisionmakers, there’s a petition you can sign at Heroes and online at Facebook. www.facebook.com/TakeBacktheSaengerTheatre
