Gulf Shores city council is deciding the fate of Hangout Festival’s request to continue for 4 more years this week. A petition is circulating for Baldwin County Beach area residents to voice their support. 1,000 signatures by May 11 are needed.
Huka/SMG proposal to run Saenger is on the table again. Huka says they already have at least ten performances ready to finalize for the remainder of 2013, and at least 64 so far for next year. Those possibilities could be lost if the City does not take action as soon as possible. The Saenger will be shut down October 1 if no decision made pursuant to the City’s agreement to finance it for one year.
Tarsands are already shipping through metro Mobileâ€™s residential neighborhoods and downtown business area, with plans to eventually increase to more than 120 carloads of tar sand oil per day. That translates to more than 2 million gallons of oil entering the city every day. The danger to the community far outweighs any potential benefit.
