Soul Kitchen adds Ivan Neville’s Dumpstaphunk to its Mardi Gras concert lineup
92ZEW and Soul Kitchen are helping you get your Mardi Gras groove on with the first rate fortified funk n roll of Ivan Neville’s Dumpstaphunk, live in concert, Friday, February 2. Â Plus 92ZEW has your chance to win tickets to the show before they go on sale in the 5:00 Traffic Jam Monday and Tuesday. Tickets go on sale 10 am Wednesday and make nice Christmas gifts ;-)
The supremely talented and vivacious multi-instrumentalist put the Dumpsta with the Funk when he had a solo gig for Jazz Fest and ordered the friends and family plan for the backing band. Â He got his talented cuz Ian Neville for the guitar and more boom boom for the room with two bass players, Tony Hall and Nick Daniels and keeping the beats, Raymond Webber (who’s recently been replaced with heavy hitter Nikki Glaspie).
So ready to get the Funk Out during Mardi Gras season with NOLA sounds in the Port City’s downtown with Soul Kitchen and 92ZEW.
What da folks say:
“Dumpstaphunk’s groove is a unique monster. It’s not the minimalist funk of the Meters and it’s not the relentless funk of James Brown, although it has that rhythmic drive. It’s not the psychedelic, over-the-top circus of Parliament-Funkadelic, but it often has that political slant. It’s not the party funk of the Ohio Players, but it shares the high vocals that take the pressure off the bottom. Dumpstaphunk is a whole other school of funk. If you’re under 35, you think you’ve seen funk, but you haven’t. You missed the original Meters, James Brown when he wasn’t a parody, Parliament-Funkadelic’s landing of the “Mothershipâ€, Sly and the Family Stone before he went M.I.A and Booker T. and the M.G.s before the demise of Stax. Dumpstaphunk is as good as all that, and they’re in their prime now.†– Gambit Weekly
