Red Hot Chili Peppers were forced to cancel their show this past Saturday in L.A. (KROQ annual Weenie Roast) after singer Anthony Kiedis was hospitalized.
UPDATE: 5/17/2016 – RHCP website says “Anthony is expected to make a full recovery soon”
Bassist Flea announced the cancellation from the stage at Irvine Meadows Amphitheater, telling fans, “Anthony is on his way to the hospital right now, and we’re unable to play this evening. We are devastated about it. We’re really sad. We love you so much. We live to rock. …. But unfortunately there’s a medical thing that happened and he needed to deal with it.”
Later, drummer Chad Smith tweeted, “No one’s more disappointed than us that we couldn’t perform tonight. Sending love and a speedy recovery to my brother Anthony.”
A source confirmed to ABC News that Kiedis was suffering from stomach pain. Later, the band said on its website that he was hospitalized “from complications from the intestinal flu” and that they’d have to postpone a performance scheduled for Tuesday.
David Mushegain, a photographer friend of the band, wrote on Instagram over the weekend, “A lot of chili peppers fans r messaging me so just want to pass on that everything is going to be ok.”
The Chili Peppers just announced their new album, The Getaway, which is due June 17. A single, “Dark Necessities,” is out now. Their next scheduled gig is on Tuesday.
