Jimmy Eat World had to pull the plug on a run of festival dates after frontman Jim Adkins got a scare he couldn’t ignore. Getting ready for Warped Tour in Mexico City, the 50-year-old noticed what he called a “shadow cloud” creeping across his vision. He went in immediately. Doctors found a detached retina and told him surgery couldn’t wait — taking the stage risked permanent damage to his sight. The band scratched Mexico City, then Louder Than Life in Louisville and both of their Shaky Knees slots in Atlanta, including a late-night headline set. Adkins is home now, out of surgery and starting recovery. His message to fans was simple: take care of yourselves, listen to your body, and they’ll be back.

On the other end of the news cycle, people are coming back with records.

Fairhope, Alabama songwriter Grayson Capps has announced The Weight of the World, his first full album of original songs in nine years, due November 6 on RPF Records / Royal Potato Family. First single “Far Away” is out today — a windswept road song about the troubadour life. Capps says songwriting is how he navigates the world, and he makes records on his own terms and at his own pace. Co-produced with Ryan Avinger and longtime guitarist Corky Hughes at Dauphin Street Sound in Mobile, the nine-song set includes the swampy blast “News” and last year’s standalone “My Body.” The long gap wasn’t a dry spell so much as life: he and partner Trina Shoemaker finished raising their kids, and he was caring for his father. “The fledglings have all flown off,” he sings on the title track. He’s back on his own clock.

Dream-pop duo Beach House have shared a previously unheard cover as part of the 50th-anniversary edition of Robert Lester Folsom’s 1976 private-press classic Music and Dreams. The album has been newly mastered by Jessica Thompson and fleshed out with reel-to-reel demos plus new covers: Beach House on “April Suzanne,” Hannah Cohen on the title track. It drops October 16; physical and digital packages are up for pre-order.

David Byrne isn’t treating Who Is the Sky? as a finished object. A digital deluxe edition is out now with four bonus cuts, including the upbeat “My Madness,” which has a new psychedelic video. Byrne’s point is that streaming loosened the old idea of an album as a fixed sequence on a physical object. Songs can arrive later; the through-line is that they were made around the same time and still talk to each other. His tour is also heading to the big screen: Brady Corbet shot the Baltimore Hippodrome hometown shows on 70mm. And October 6 brings Byrne’s book Sleeping Beauties: Why Good Ideas Go Dormant and How They Wake Up from Penguin Press.

Almost nine years after Tom Petty’s death — and nearly fifty after the Heartbreakers’ self-titled debut — the estate is marking the band’s half-century with Origins 1971–1978. Out November 6, the box gathers 51 tracks from those first eight years, including 27 unreleased, live, extended, or previously unheard sides, all newly mixed from the original multi-tracks by Ryan Ulyate. It traces Petty from Mudcrutch through the first two Heartbreakers albums, with rarities collection No Sleep Til L.A. also available on its own. Pre-order is open now.

A statement from the city of Santa Monica stated that the festival “has been canceled after storm surf generated by Hurricane Marie and runoff from a storm drain outfall eroded a large portion of the festival site over Labor Day weekend. The beach can no longer safely accommodate the festival production and audience capacity, and with construction and load-in set to begin next week, the city determined that cancellation was the only responsible option. Plans are already underway to bring the Ocean Way Festival back to Santa Monica in 2027.” The two-day festival was hoping to draw up to 45,000 fans to the beach each day, but fans will have to wait at least another year to hit the sand and see the shows. Single-day passes were being sold along with two-day entry, and the lineup seemed designed to possibly draw a somewhat different audience each day, with rock acts like the Killers, Jack White and Sublime topping the bill on Saturday.

If you bought passes, the statement sent out to ticketholders said that refunds, which had been sold in a range from $249 to $2,250, will be processed automatically in the next 5-7 business days, so you won’t have to wait too long to get your money back.

The Man, Dawes, Dark Star Orchestra, Trampled By Turtles, The Devil Makes Three, andPotter’s most recent Grammy-nominated collaborator Maggie Rose.

On April 29, 2016, Pearl Jam played their 10th sold-out show in South Philadelphia. To mark the occasion, the venue had a special surprise for the band: a banner reading “Pearl Jam 10 South Philadelphia Sellouts” made to hang in the rafters of the Wells Fargo Center.

Seeing the banner, Eddie knew there was another way to celebrate.“I saw that number and I was like, I think we gotta do it,” Eddie told the Philadelphia crowd from the stage that night.What followed was Pearl Jam performing Ten all the way through, track-by-track.“Philly gives back, they just give back,” Eddie told the crowd that night. “We just tried to figure out something that we could get for you. Something that we could wrap and unwrap with you.”

The publisher declined further comment on the death of the beloved actor. The Los Angeles Police Department said officers responded to the actor’s home overnight for a death investigation, which they concluded without finding anything suspicious.

The actor survived a stroke in 2012 that left him requiring the use of a wheelchair and limited his work mostly to voice acting and guest appearances at fan events.

Born in Cheshire, England, Curry began his career on the London stage in the 1970s, performing in the original West End production of Hair. He later appeared on Broadway in Tom Stoppard’s Travesties and in Amadeus. For the latter, he received a Tony nomination for best actor in a play.

Curry was probably best known for playing mad scientist Dr. Frank-N-Furter in the cult musical The Rocky Horror Picture Show. The actor originated the character on the West End stage in the early 1970s before reprising the role for the 1975 film adaptation. Thanks in large part to midnight showings, the film has the longest-running theatrical release in history.

Curry’s talent for playing campy villains, coupled with his recognizable baritone voice, landed him a series of memorable roles throughout the 1980s, including as the butler Wadsworth in Clue, the Lord of Darkness in the fantasy film Willow and the shape-shifting clown Pennywise in the TV miniseries It, adapted from Stephen King’s novel.

The actor starred in a string of Hollywood films throughout the 1990s and 2000s, with major roles in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, The Three Musketeers, The Hunt for Red October and Charlie’s Angels. He made frequent guest appearances on TV shows as well, including Roseanne, Will & Grace and Monk.

Curry was also a prolific voice actor, winning a Daytime Emmy for his performance as Captain Hook in the animated series Peter Pan and the Pirates. He voiced Nigel Thornberry on the Nickelodeon series The Wild Thornberrys, and appeared in the films FernGully: The Last Rainforest and The Rugrats Movie.

An accomplished singer, Curry appeared on various movie soundtracks and released three solo albums. His 1979 single “I Do the Rock” charted on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.

In 2004, Curry returned to Broadway, originating the role of King Arthur in Spamalot, the hit comedy musical written by Monty Python member Eric Idle and based on the movie Monty Python and the Holy Grail. The performance earned him a Tony nomination for best performance by a leading actor in a musical.

Three years after his stroke, Curry made a rare public appearance to accept the Actors Fund’s lifetime achievement award and reflected on his use of humor amid his recovery.

“It’s not tough to maintain,” he told Los Angeles Magazine about his sense of humor. “It is just part of my DNA.”

Curry also reflected on his iconic role as Dr. Frank-N-Furter. “It’s neither a blessing nor a curse. I was lucky to get it,” he told the magazine.

Parton’s nephew, Brian Seaver, announced the news in a video posted on her Instagram. No details about her death were given.

Seaver added that Dolly “lived in the light and is in the arms of Jesus, surely met by Carl, her parents, and countless others.”

Parton recently shared an update on her health on Friday, Aug. 21, in a video on social media acknowledging her recent decline after the March 2025 death of her husband, Carl Dean.

Parton told People Magazine, “As I’ve shared in video messages throughout the past year, I am dealing with some health issues that I just didn’t pay attention to when I was watching over Carl. You know, this isn’t the first time I’ve had to manage something like this. Back in the early ’80s, I was down for several months with female issues, and I was struggling with my weight at the time too, so it’s not like I haven’t been through hard times with my health, but I think because we live in a 24/7 world with social media, everything gets magnified in ways it wasn’t years ago. I used to joke that I was the Queen of the Tabloids, but now I guess I can say I’m the Queen of Social Media AI! Seriously, though, even though I’m still healin’, I’m still workin’! You know me — as I’ve often said — I’ve dreamed myself into a corner and I still have so many things I want to achieve, so I’m gonna keep on working as long as I can to see everything come to life.”

The famed heavy metal festival, which has been dormant for nearly eight years, is confirmed to take place at Villa Park in Birmingham, England, in 2027.

A post to the Ozzfest Instagram teases “more info on everything coming soon!”

Following Ozzy’s death in July 2025, his widow, Sharon Osbourne, started teasing the return of Ozzfest, which was last held in 2018. During a March episode of the Osbournes Podcast, Sharon said that she hoped for the festival to be held in Birmingham in 2027, followed by a return to the U.S.

Ozzy performed at Villa Park during 2025’s massive Back to the Beginning concert, which marked his final live performance before his death just over two weeks later.

The Irish outfit’s fifth studio effort is due out Oct. 16. It’s the follow-up to 2024’s Romance, which spawned the single “Starburster.”

“The album itself is a dopamine chamber,” says frontman Grian Chatten. “You step inside and we test these different mind- or mood-altering pieces of music on you.”

The record’s first single is called “Marianne” and is out now.

Fontaines D.C. will be performing at the upcoming Shaky Knees, Sea.Hear.Now and Ohana festivals.

“It was announced today that Frank Beard, ZZ Top’s drummer for the past 56 years, has died. He was in hospice care when he passed away at his ranch in Richmond, TX with family members at his side,” according to a statement Tuesday from the band’s publicist.

A message posted on the band’s official X account in March 2025 announced that Beard had “temporarily stepped away” from the band’s then-current tour to attend to an unspecified health issue, and that Beard was “looking forward to a speedy recovery.” He rejoined the band on tour in September of that year.

Born June 11, 1949, in Frankston, Texas, Hill joined the Houston-based band The Moving Sidewalks in 1969, which featured vocalist, guitarist and songwriter Billy Gibbons. The band soon changed its name to ZZ Top and, following the departure of some members and the addition of bassist Dusty Hill, the trio recorded their debut album, 1971’s aptly titled ZZ Top’s First Album.

“It didn’t take 30 minutes; it didn’t take 30 seconds. I knew that Frank Beard had the kind of chops that I was looking for,” Billy Gibbons recalled of their first meeting in the 2019 documentary ZZ Top: That Little Ol’ Band from Texas. “He played fiercely. He played with determination.”

The band’s follow-up, 1972’s Rio Grande Mud, featured the modest chart hit “Francine.” But it was ZZ Top’s breakout third album, 1973’s Tres Hombres, that put them on the map, largely on the strength of the album’s lead single, the blues rock boogie “La Grange.”

Featuring Beard’s signature snare-rim-tapping triplets intro beneath Billy Gibbons’ sly, growling vocals, then dropping into a hard-pounding shuffle groove two dozen bars in, “La Grange” helped propel Tres Hombres into the top 10 of the Billboard 200 all-genre albums chart on the way to becoming RIAA-certified Gold for sales of more than 500,000 units.

With a lineup unchanged for over half a decade, the “Little ‘Ol Band from Texas” released 15 studio albums during Beard’s tenure, the latest being 2012’s La Futura, with nine of them reaching RIAA Gold or Platinum status. Of those, however, the biggest-selling remains 1983’s Eliminator, which sold more than 10 million units in the U.S. alone and includes the hits “Sharp-Dressed Man” and “Gimme All Your Lovin'” – both propelled by Beard’s hammering, driving backbeat – and “Legs.” The latter, the band’s highest-charting single, featured neither Beard nor bassist Hill, though they were credited.

Beard – ironically, given his name, the only band member who didn’t sport Gibbons’ and Hill’s signature long facial hair – remained with ZZ Top for the entirety of the band’s six-decade existence and was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame with them in 2004. He struggled with substance abuse early in the band’s history before checking himself into rehab in the early 1980s, during which time the band went on hiatus, his bandmates telling Beard to take however long he needed.

“I just wanted to get sober,” Hill said in ZZ Top: That Little Ol’ Band from Texas. “I wanted to be like people I admired that could sit at home and watch TV and go to bed.”

Beard was married twice, the second time to Debbie Meredith in 1982. She survives him, as do their three children.

ZZ Top bassist and founding member Dusty Hill died in July 2021 at age 72. Billy Gibbons is now the sole remaining member of the original trio.

ZZ Top is currently on the latest leg of their The Big One! tour. Due to Beard’s passing, they’ve canceled their Tuesday show in Salt Lake City, Utah, and Wednesday’s scheduled show in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
