Hangout 2019

Back in 2019 at the Hangout Festival, Matt and I went backstage to interview Walk The Moon. Matt was going to conduct the interview and I was going to record it. In true fashion I couldn’t keep my mouth shut and what followed turned out to be one of the funniest interviews that never aired (and gave us a name for a Morning Show duo)!

Recently I found it and Matt & I listened to it and said “We have got to share this with the world”! So here it is, unedited and in it’s entirety. Enjoy!

• Playlists that suck will be rejected summarily.
• If selected, you’ll be notified at least 1 week in advance. You can choose to be in the ZEW Studio in person on your day or just chill and listen, totally up to you. Preference will be given to those who want to vibe in person. We want to chat and know WHY you picked these songs!
• Not all songs will be used. Songs should fit into the general realm of the 92ZEW scope of music. Alternative, Americana, Rock, Blues, local Gulf Coast artists, etc, and be in the current 92ZEW music library or available with clean radio edits. No Backstreet Boys or Celine Dion or Garth or 2 Chains, ya’ dig? 92ZEW will have or obtain the actual music files to be aired unless otherwise notified and have final discretion over all songs selected.

Pablo has been there and done that on radio, stage, screen and the internet entertaining the masses in his career. He mostly found it all silly. BUT, he likes hanging out with you on the radio and spinning killer tunes and talking about what happening in our community. He’s…complicated.

A Mobile native, Pablo has served on the classic WABB (where he dubiously helped bring Matt McCoy to the Gulf Coast), a long stint on 92ZEW and now returns to wreak a little occasional musical havoc. He enjoys his work with Liberty Learning Foundation, empowering students across Alabama to become the “Next Great Americans”. Follow along and get involved at libertylearning.org.

When he’s not on the radio, you can usually find him editing The Personal Edge Fitness Podcast he produces, collecting at Big Hit Sports Cards / Gulf Coast Hobby in Spanish Fort, doing stat-nerd stuff for fantasy baseball or watching movies with his family.

Gene is also one of the co-hosts of 92ZEW’s Beer BBQ and Bingo every Tuesday night at Moe’s Original BBQ, downtown Mobile.  You can also catch him at the Electric Piano Parlor on Dauphin Streets every Friday and Saturday night.

A LONG TIME AGO, IN A GALAXY FAR FAR AWAY

Gene is celebrating 20 years on 92ZEW! He came to Mobile in 2006 from Hilton Head Island, SC where not only worked in radio there but was also a professional musician. Gene grew up in Winter Haven, Fl and moved to Los Angeles when he was 21. Soon thereafter he began making his living as a musician and an actor.  He first started playing summers on Hilton Head in 1988 and moved there full time in 1998 where he was the front man in the popular party band “The Lawn Jockeys”. Since coming to Mobile, Gene has been very active in the local music scene playing at many venues around the area including Dahlia’s Dueling Piano Bar and Moe’s BBQ for many years. Gene is also involved with the local theatre scene, performing in many productions over the years including “Fiddler On The Roof” (Teyve), “Cat On A Hot Tin Roof” (Big Daddy) as well as directing many award winning productions including “Assassins” at MTG, “Young Frankenstein” and the Alabama Community theatre premiere of “Escape To Margaritaville” at the Joe Jefferson Playhouse. Gene is also a history geek and avid drone pilot.

Matt moved from Memphis to Mobile in the Fall of 2001 to help co host the well known Morning Guys Show, on the legendary station WABB where he met his personal hero, Pablo. He left there in 2007 to teach radio production at The University of South Alabama, becoming the first voice of JAG Football from 2009-2010 and helped get South Alabama’s College station, 97.1 the Prowl up and on the air, which was completed in 2016. In between, he also hosted shows on Q100 in Pensacola, and 1073 in Mobile, leaving there in 2018 to come join the ZEW KREWE as the Marketing and Promotions Director.

He currently hosts the morning show from 6 AM – 10AM each weekday + Saturdays too!

He also hosts the Mid Day Jam Session on 96.5 The Crab from 11AM-1PM.
