8/14: United Way of Southwest Alabama Annual Meeting Featuring Fox Butterfield
Thursday – 11:30 am, Renaissance Mobile Riverview Plaza
Admission: $60 per person | $600 for a table of 9

The United Way of Southwest Alabama (UWSWA) is hosting a two-day Annual Meeting featuring Pulitzer Prize Winner Fox Butterfield. The event opens with a Community Roundtable led by Mr. Butterfield on August 14 at 1 PM in the Government Plaza Auditorium that is free and open to the public. On August 15, the public is invited to the 2019 Campaign Kickoff at the UWSWA office. Immediately following, there will be a second-line style parade to the Renaissance Mobile Riverview Plaza that ends with a Campaign Rally in the courtyard. The ticketed luncheon will be held in the Renaissance Riverview Plaza Hotel ballroom and includes a short program followed by Mr. Butterfield’s keynote speech. Tickets are $60 each and tables of nine are $600.

8/16: Women’s Forum – Women Who Rock It
Friday – 8 am – 10:30 am, Renaissance Riverview Riverview Plaza
Admission: $25 per person | $200 for a table of 8 – Register by Monday, August 12th

The Women’s Forum is a great opportunity to network and engage with inspiring women from our region who ROCK IT every day! We are excited to hear from our keynote speaker, Kay Hire. Hire, a Mobile native and Murphy High School graduate, is a former NASA astronaut and Captain in the U.S. Navy Reserve who has flown aboard two Space Shuttle missions and was the first female in the U.S. military to be assigned to a combat aircrew. The Forum will also feature Lynne Chronister, Vice President of Research and Economic Development, University of South Alabama; Dr. Kathryn Dempsey, Dermatologist, Coastal Dermatology & Skin Care Center; Helena Roldan, Marriage and Family Counselor, Phases Employee Assistance Program; and Suntrease Williams-Maynard, Trial Attorney, U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity. These women will participate in a panel discussion with Maggie Lacey, Executive Editor of Mobile Bay Magazine serving as moderator.

8/16 – 9/1: Matilda
Friday – Sunday, Joe Jefferson Playhouse
Admission: $10 and up
Ages: All. Matilda is a cherished story of a whimsically brilliant little girl who practically raises herself and learns she has special powers! Don’t miss this enchanting play at the JJP.

8/9 – 8/25: A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder
Friday & Saturday – 7:30 pm | Sunday – 2 pm, Chickasaw Civic Theatre
Admission: $12 and up.Ages: All
Set in London in 1907, A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder centers on Monty Navarro, a penniless clerk who is informed after the death of his mother that he is ninth in line to inherit the earldom of Highhurst, controlled by the wealthy D’Ysquith banking family. After the imperious ruling Lord dismisses Monty’s claim of being a relative, the eight D’Ysquiths ahead of young Mr. Navarro begin dying in natural and unnatural ways. How will all of these convoluted storylines come together?

8/17: JAGUAR FOOTBALL FAN DAY- Sat 3pm-5pm,
Jaguar Training Center, USA campus. The entire family will enjoy a chance to meet players, get autographs, and take a selfie with Coach Steve Campbell. There will be inflatables, defensive and offensive stations, plus a great opportunity to see the new stadium taking shape. FREE!

4th Annual BLUES ON THE RIVER- Sat 12 noon-9pm,
Military Road in Mount Vernon. Featuring JEFF FLOYD, NATHANIEL KIMBLE, TILL1, DAVID BRINSTON, TARA, IDA LEE, MR CAMPBELL, KENNY COX, MOSE STOVALL and more.

8/16 – 8/18: Vintage Market Days of Mobile
Friday – Sunday, The Grounds
Admission: General Admission | 12 and Under Free
Ages: All . Vintage Market Days is an upscale vintage-inspired market featuring original art, antiques, clothing, jewelry, handmade treasures, home décor, outdoor furnishings, consumable yummies, seasonal plantings, and a little more. The Market is a three-day event held several times a year in various communities. Each Vintage Market Days event is a unique opportunity for vendors to display their talents and passions in different venues.

8/18 – 8/22: Mobile BayBears vs. Chattanooga
Sunday – Thursday, Hank Aaron Stadium
Admission: $7+
Ages: All
Every game day is a blast at the Hank: Monday is ‘Every Monday Matters,’ where you can receive free admission for bringing 2 used clothing items, 2 canned goods, or 2 books; then there’s $2 Taco Tuesdays with $4 Margaritas, $1 Hot Dog Wednesdays, and Thirsty Thursdays.

8/24: Miles for Medicine 5K and Fun Run
Saturday – 7:30 am, Langan Municipal Park
Admission: $17 and up Adults | $12 and up Children 12 and Under
Ages: All. The annual “Miles for Medicine 5K and Fun Run” to support charitable activities of the Lions Club at South Alabama will be held in Langan Park Saturday, Aug. 24th. This family-friendly event will include food, music, trophies, and give-aways. Bring any used eyeglasses to be recycled.
