WEEKEND RUNDOWN FOR JUNE 6th – JUNE 8th

FRIDAY: 

WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP TURKEY CALLING CONTEST- Fri/Sat 8am, Mobile Convention Center, Downtown Mobile. Many of the country’s top turkey callers are eagerly awaiting the chance to show off their talents at the Mobile Convention Center. The World Championship Turkey Calling Contest has long-time ties to the city of Mobile. The inaugural event was held in Mobile in 1940 at the Battle House Hotel when Mr. Fred T. Stimpson, the current mayor’s grandfather, took home top honors.

GULF COAST CHINESE LANTERN FESTIVAL- Thurs-Sun 5pm-10pm, Apr 17-Jun 15, Open Easter and Memorial Day, Bellingrath Gardens, Theodore.During this Spring night-time event, the Gardens will be transformed into a dazzling showcase of light, color, and culture. The estate will become a radiant dreamscape featuring 41 towering, handcrafted light sculptures, each glowing with vivid hues and artistic detail. 

SATURDAY: 

MARKET IN THE PARK- Sat 7:30am- 12noon (April 26- June 28), Cathedral Square, Downtown Mobile. Shop locally grown, locally produced and handmade items at Market in the Park! Explore a wide variety of fresh, locally-grown produce, artisanal goods, and handcrafted items from local vendors while enjoying live entertainment in Cathedral Square. The City of Mobile is proud to support the community with a selection of vendors who accept SNAP benefits, making fresh, healthy options accessible to all.

CHILDREN’S CUP REGATTA- Sat 9am (Registration); 12:30pm (Races begin), Fairhope Yacht Club.The 14th annual Children’s Cup Regatta sets sail on Saturday to benefit patients from the Alabama Gulf Coast treated at Children’s of Alabama. Sailing enthusiasts and friends in Mobile and Baldwin counties are invited to enjoy a day of sailboat racing, along with a children’s area, live music, silent auction and more.

AFRICATOWN BRIDGE CHALLENGE 5K and FUN RUN- Sat 7:30am, 645 Shelby St, Mobile. View Historic Africatown, the Mobile River, Port of Mobile, Mobile-Tensaw River Delta, and the City of Mobile from 350-feet-high as you run or walk your way across the 7,291-foot-long bridge on the certified 5k course. There will also be a 1-mile course that takes participants from Shelby Street to the foot of the bridge and back. Then stay for refreshments and to learn about Africatown history.

CHICKASAW COLLECTORS CONSat 9am-5pm. JC Davis Auditorium.  Come check out over 20 vendors featuring collectibles of all kinds. Comics, Toys, Diecast cars, original comic art as well as pop culture merchandise. Doors open at 9 AM, and close at 5. Don’t miss this great show! That’s Saturday June 7th at JC Davis Auditorium. PADDLE IN THE PARKSat 10am-1pm, Langan Municipal Park, Mobile.Make plans to join the Mobile Parks & Recreation Department for a day of fun on the water to kick off the lake restoration project at Langan Park! Enjoy free kayaking and canoeing, hands-on STREAM activities for kids, and learn about the science behind lake dredging through fun, interactive stations. Pack a picnic or grab a bite to eat from local food trucks while you relax by the water. You do not want to miss this family-friendly celebration of nature, learning, and community

FMC CAR SHOW AND MOVIE NIGHTSat 10am-10pm.  The Family Ministries Center in Fairhope, AL, is hosting an all day event- Starting at 10AM is an open car show- all makes and models of cars, trucks, Jeeps, Rat Rods, antique, modern and classic vehicles! Early Registration is $20, day of the event is $30. Spectators $10, Kids under 10 free. There’s 43 awards that will be issued- at 4PM! There will be raffles, prizes, and other activities! Kids zone includes bouncy houses and other activities! All kinds of vendors- food, and more!

SUNDAY:

WORLD OCEAN DAY CELEBRATION- Sun 12noon-3pm, Perdido Key Community Center. This open-house style event is designed to bring the community together to celebrate World Ocean Day and highlight the amazing work of the environmental and conservation groups in our area. It’s a chance for people of all ages to connect, explore, and learn about the efforts being made to protect our oceans, wildlife, and natural resources. This is a free, family-friendly event.
