After her onstage collapse at the All Things Go festival last Saturday night in Forest Hills, New York, and the subsequent cancellation of her appearance at the festival’s Washington, D.C., installment, the British singer is now stepping away from the spotlight.
“I’m going away for a while,” she wrote on Instagram Tuesday. “It pains me to say I have to cancel everything for the foreseeable future.”
“Thank you for all the love and support,” she continued. “I’m so sorry to let anyone down who has bought a ticket to see me, it hurts me more than you know. Obviously, you will be entitled to a full refund.”
“I really hope you’ll give me a second chance once I’ve had some time to work on myself and come back stronger,” she concluded. “Love you all.”
Lola’s forthcoming North American tour was scheduled to begin Nov. 1 in Toronto and wrap up Dec. 6 in LA.
According to Billboard, the “Messy” singer sang four songs from her new album, I’m Only F****** Myself, including “Spiders,” “DÂŁaler,” “F*** Everyone” and “Walk All Over You.” Halfway through her next track, “Conceited,” Billboard reports that Lola paused to talk to her keyboard player and then collapsed. She was down for about 30 to 45 seconds before her band and security rushed to carry her offstage.
Prior to her collapse, Lola told the crowd that she’d had “a tricky couple of days,” adding, “Sometimes life can make you feel like you can’t continue, but you know what? Today I woke up and I made the decision to come here and I wanted to perform and I don’t want to wallow in my sadness. And sometimes life can throw you lemons and you just got to f****** make lemonade.”
She had previously canceled an appearance on Friday, with her manager Nick Shymansky writing on her Instagram Story, “Unfortunately due to a sensitive matter I have advised Lola Young to pull out of performing … this evening. Lola is very open about her mental health and there are very occasionally days where myself and my team have to take protective measures to keep her safe.”
Among the celebrities offering Lola support in the comments were Meghan Trainor, Hayley Kiyoko and Kehlani, while fans also promised they would wait as long as it takes for her to return. In fact, Trainor wrote, “We will wait for you!! TAKE UR TIME. CHOOSE YOU FIRST.”
