The following are the issues of public importance identified by radio stations, WNSP, WZEW-FM, WZEW HD 2, and WZEW HD 3  in the 4th Quarter of 2025 for Mobile, Fairhope and the surrounding service area:

1)   The improvement and protection of the environment in Mobile and Baldwin counties along with Mobile Bay and the Gulf of Mexico.   

2)   The need for funding and support of the Child Advocacy Center for victims of sexual and physical abuse within the Mobile/Fairhope area.

3)  The need for volunteer action to support programs and services for non-profit agencies within the service area.

4) Support for, and education about, the arts and the role they play in our community.

WZEW-FM offers extended airtime to legitimate public service groups through our liberal offering of airtime to legitimate public service groups.  Included in the 4th quarter were the American Heart Association, the Child Advocacy Center, the Lagniappe, Boys and Girls Club, USA Woman’s & Children’s of Alabama, the Lagniappe, LifeSouth Community Bloodcenters, Lifelines Counseling Services, Mobile Arts Council, Mobile Baykeeper, the South West Mobile Are Chamber of Commerce, USA Children’s and Women’s Hospital, Breast Cancer Awareness, Playhouse in the Park , and The Joe Jefferson Playhouse. All the PSA’s that aired on WZEW are listed under the Community Round Table and 251 Now section directly below. 

Public News/Lagniappe

WZEW has dedicated time to supporting news efforts in partnership with the Lagniappe weekly newspaper to cover stories of public interest that go uncovered due to the area’s lack of a daily newspaper.

                    Bras Across the Causeway

WZEW-FM sponsored and promoted the Bras Across the Causeway run and fundraiser for Breast Cancer Awareness and Victims at USS Battleship Park to benefit local patients currently battling the disease. WZEW personality Matt Mc Coy provided PA, music, and emcee duties. The event raised over $80,000 which went directly to patients at USA’s Providence Hospital and others in Mobile and Baldwin Counties currently battling breast cancer. 

Child Advocacy Center

WZEW-FM sponsored and promoted the Child Advocacy Center’s  “Holiday Cheer for Children” event. WZEW-FM promoted the event on air and made an appearance at the “Holiday Cheer” event. 92 ZEW personality Matt Mc Coy co-hosted the event and helped auction off items to raise money for the CAC.  Comment from Director of Communications, Elaine Henderson:

The Arts in our Community

WZEW-FM is a proud sponsor of the Arts in Mobile & Baldwin Counties. This includes The Joe Jefferson Playhouse, Playhouse in the Park , Mobile Arts Council, Loda Art Walk/Arts Alive!, The Mobile Opera & Symphony and Ballet and many others. Times of shows, and tickets to the events were given each week leading up to the weekend performances. Gene Murrell also participated in and helped judge the Annual Walter Trumbauer Festival, which has provided quality training and performance opportunities for Alabama theatre students at the high school level since 1940.  The festival consists of 33 individual events, a one-act play festival, a studio theatre play festival, and group events —all for 9th through 12th grades. Students receive critiques from qualified theatre practitioners.  The Awards ceremony celebrates the best of the best.  The two top one-act productions advance to the SETC High School Competition.The students attending the state festival have qualified from one of seven district festivals held throughout the state on November 2, 2024. Funded in part by a grant from the Alabama State Council of the Arts and the National Endowment of the Arts.

Southwest Mobile County Chamber Business Expo

WZEW-FM, WNSP, 96.5 The Crab and 92.5 The Soul participated in the SouthWest Mobile County Chamber of Commerce Business Expo, promoting area businesses and the avenues we have available for their businesses to get their message and services out to the public.   

University of South Alabama’s Communication Career Day

92 ZEW and WNSP sent three personalities to this event held on The University of South Alabama’s campus. Each personality met with students to discuss radio job opportunities and answer questions on how radio works. They also signed up two new interns for the Spring to come learn in person at the Sound of Mobile Studios.

For 30+ years Radio Health Journal has been bringing listeners useful, verifiable information they can trust and rely on in the fields of health, science, technology, and the intersection of medicine & public policy. Join the ultimate street party filled with bubbles, music, and activities everyone in the family can enjoy. Dance through the day at the Disco Dome Party or pop into fun at the Bubble Foam Party! With free hands-on crafts and entertainment for children of all ages, Bubbles & Beats is the perfect way to close out the year with your loved ones!   

MOONPIE OVER MOBILE and Noon Year’s Eve Drop- Wed Dec 31.11am-1pm, Mardi Gras Park; 7:30pm Riverview Plaza; 8:30pm, Main Stage, Downtown Mobile.Live music. A second line. A MoonPie in the sky. And the whole night is free. New Year’s Eve doesn’t get better than this!  The fun kicks off early with the Kids Zone at Mardi Gras Park from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., including the beloved MoonPie Noon Year’s Eve Drop for families at noon. In the evening, the Best Decorated Umbrella Contest returns at 7:30 p.m. in the Renaissance Riverview Plaza Courtyard, complete with a street party performance by The Jukebox Brass Band. After the cutting of the World’s Largest MoonPie, the Jukebox Brass Band will lead a lively second line parade to the Main Stage and perform at 8:45. Red and The Revelers will perform at 9:30, then at 11pm, it’s the headliner, Morris Day & the Time, bringing their signature blend of high-gloss showmanship, infectious energy, and Minneapolis funk to the Main Stage to close out the year in style. Then at midnight, the giant MoonPie drops from the top of the RSA Trustmark Building, joined by a fun pyro display. 

KIDS’ CONFETTI DROP – Wed Dec 31 10am-2pm, Main Street, The Wharf, Orange Beach.Perfect for little ones with early bedtimes, this family-friendly celebration brings the fun hours before midnight. Enjoy inflatable thrills, festive face painting ($10), camel rides ($10), balloon creations, and plenty more. Then, watch the sky sparkle as confetti cannons burst at Noon—creating a colorful, joy-filled countdown the whole family will love! 

REELIN’ IN THE NEW YEAR- Wed Dec 31 5pm-12 midnight, Main Street, The Wharf, Orange Beach.Dance into the night with live bands, family-friendly fun, and grown-up good times. All the excitement is building up to a magical midnight moment featuring The Park Band, the dazzling marlin drop countdown, and a fireworks finale!
