Former longtime sound engineer for the band, Huw Richards, was planning on selling a collection of unreleased recordings. This included “unfiltered dialogue” between the Gallagher brothers. Huw Richards collected tapes of live shows, sound checks, and even rehearsals from the 1990s.
Richards was with the band from their debut album in 1994, till his departure in 2001. During this time he collected over 100+ hours recorded directly into his sound desk. When Littleton first announced the auction earlier this month, it set a guide price for the archive, known as the Desk Tapes, of between £1.2m and £1.6m.
Oasis quickly responded with “concerns” to the auction house and have since suspended the auction.
Combined action of Oasis, the Gallagher brothers and Sony Music Entertainment U.K. filed a suit against Richards on Tuesday(Sept. 29th) in London’s High Court. The case also names the auction house, Littleton Auctions, as well as Richards’ son Owain.
This sale comes on the tail of the Reunite tour in 2024 and a second tour planned to start in the upcoming spring (2027).
