Many of you know that for over 30 years, I shared a close friendship with the great Catt Sirten, a career radio personality and champion of the Mobile, AL music and arts scene. Together, we worked on countless projects promoting jazz and other genres through live and recorded performances. He also gave us the gift of his wonderful radio show, Catt’s Sunday Jazz Brunch, which first aired in 1984 and broadcasted over 2,000 shows on WZEW 92.1-FM.

Tragically, when we lost Catt on August 6, 2023, the Sunday Jazz Brunch also came to an end. However, there are those who believe he would want us to keep his music alive. I agree.

I am honored and humbled to announce that WZEW is bringing The Sunday Jazz Brunch back, and they’ve asked me to host the show. I have accepted with enthusiasm.

The adventure begins September 6th from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. I’m filled with gratitude and a sense of responsibility. I cannot fill Catt’s shoes. Rather, I will do my best to honor the legacy of my friend and to keep real jazz alive and accessible to Mobile, the Gulf Coast, and the world.

Thank you WZEW and Mobile. Wish me luck!

Chip
